Tomb Raider: Legacy is an action-adventure video game in the Tomb Raider franchise developed by Crystal Dynamix and published by Square Enix. It is the direct sequel to Tomb Raider: Underworld, the final installment in the popular Tomb Raider trilogy developed by Crystal Dynamix. It marks the beginning of a new Tomb Raider trilogy, and a new set of adventures by the Lara Croft, the Tomb Raider.
Legacy received mostly positive reviews from fans and critics alike. IGN recognized the game as “a step in the right direction”, despite the controversy over the developers' choice to return to their original interpretation of Lara, as opposed to what was seen in Tomb Raider, their 2013 reboot of the series. The most important changes made in Legacy from the previous game include the removal of its open world system and role-playing elements, aspects of the game that gave players more freedom to think for Lara. The developers feel that this transition was necessary for them to further the series. Furthermore, Legacy is not set in the same timeline as Tomb Raider. Legacy is not all compromise, however. One major improvement is the inclusion of cooperative gameplay, which appeals to players wanting to tackle the story mode with friends.
